QTBIPOC
QTBIPOC is an important acronym that extends our understanding of the larger LGBTQ+ community. QTBIPOC stands for Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous People of Color. QTBIPOC are acknowledged to encompass some of the most marginalized members of the LGBTQ+ community existing at the intersection of racism, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, queerphobia, and transphobia. Accordingly, QTBIPOC individuals often face multiple forms of oppression.
We cannot neglect the historic role that QTBIPOC have played in the gay liberation movement. To that end, we must acknowledge that allowing the LGBTQ+ movement to be predominantly dominated by white voices only limits our efforts to strive for equality and inclusion for all. In particular, it is necessary for us to recognize the ongoing struggle for liberation faced by QTBIPOC and remain committed to working to create a more just society in which all can thrive.
The LGBTQ+ community is a wonderful amalgamation of different orientations and identities. It is this diversity that strengthens our collective outlook and voice. As our understanding of the QTBIPOC continues to grow so does our efforts to better serve and embrace this portion of our beautiful collective. The compilation of resources that follow is certainly not all encompassing; however, it has been purposed to further access and edification.
